2nd annual family summer vacation

Our 2nd annual mini summer vacation to Sicamous, BC, took place from August 15-19 this year.

The last couple years the smoke has been so bad in August in Calgary, that it might be better to get away. Unfortunately, it's almost worse if you are heading INTO the smoke by travelling to BC! (...maybe next year we should just head south instead!)

The first 3 days were okay for smoke - actually better than when we left Calgary.
The weather was warm as well.

The first day was spent travelling, so for our second day we went back to the Skytrek Adventure Park in Revelstoke. The kids had such fun there last year. Skye was now 6 and old enough to do the really tall climbing tower activities AND the crazy slingshot swing. Of course, she was ALL for it!
We were so happy that Rhys was more adventurous this year, and after a round thru the junior climbing center with Momma, he was good to go on his own!!
We spent more time (and $$$) at this park and decided to skip the Enchanted Forrest side this year.

Our third day was spent at the beach. It was a hot day and we were lucky that we got it in! Because the next day more smoke blew in and it was FREEZING!
Nothing like driving down the road (past the cop shop) with the biggest floatie you ever did see on the back of the truck. Good thing it was a short drive.
Skye had a "great" idea and decided that her and I should swim out to the sand bar where all of the "party boats" were. So, with her life jacket on and me using a flutterboard for minimum exertion, we tackled the loooooong swim. It was actually walkable most of the way, but a bit slimy. We spent a little time at the sandbar and then ventured back.

Since our last day was so chilly (mental note - bring more warm clothes next time, even though the forecast calls for +30C), we had a fun day of mini golf, a silly string war and Go Kart racing.
Skye actually, for REAL, got a hole in one! She also kind of dominated the silly string war. Rhys needs to get some practice in LOL.
And the go karts were SO much fun. I think I was having more fun than the kids. Taking those corners fast was pretty awesome! AND the kids said I was a better driver than dad 😉

Summer fun with cousins!

At the end of July we had a visit from the first round of Edmonton cousins - Aviana & Evangelia!
We had fun park play, water fun at Riley Park and a bike ride thru the Babbling Brooks park - ending with a beautiful water fountain.

Then the weekend after that, the other Edmonton cousins came (Vann & Veda) - and they brought some more friends! It was a houseful, but we had lots of fun! It was kind of like camping, but at home!
Us girls (minus lightweight Steph - JK) even had to start the first night off with wine and snapchat "Truth or Dare" 😂 I had to pull the plug finally at midnight. I was turning into a pumpkin.

We (5 parents and 6 kids) trekked out to Granary Road for our annual summer visit (us parents only have the energy to tackle it ONCE a year LOL)!
The kids had a TON of fun as always.

Skye (aka nature kid) rescued a HUGE dragonfly just as we were leaving.
It must have needed a rest, as it sat on her hand as we slowly drove off and then finally flew out the window!

We finished off the day with a bbq and headstand competition in the backyard (and some dads tortured the kids with wedgie pulls)!!
It was the first time I had tried to do a headstand since I was young and I can still do it!
(the Tipsy Cow shooters probably helped) 😏
